From the October 1976 issue of the Socialist Standard
In the article “USSR—Land of Privilege” in the July Socialist Standard, page 132, the statement appears: “The Russians have over 8 million men in the armed forces.” The writer of the article has informed us that this was an error made in copying down figures, and should have been “over 3 million”.
The estimate of Russian armed forces given in the Europa Year Book for 1976 (Vol. 1) is 3,375,000, plus 430,000 “paramilitary forces” (230,000 “security” and 200,000 “border troops”).
