From the October 1993 issue of the Socialist Standard
Penguin Classics have just brought out a new edition of William Morris’s Socialist novel as News from Nowhere and Other Writings (£6.99). The other writings include two of Morris's socialist articles "Useful Work versus Useless Toil" and "The Hopes of Civilisation" both of which make it absolutely clear (for those who might doubt it) that Morris was a class-struggle Socialist who saw capitalism as based on the exploitation of the working class and Socialism as a classless stateless, moneyless society that would be the outcome of the struggle of the working class to free itself from wage-slavery
