From the January 1957 issue of the Socialist Standard
“I am told that if I get a rise the goods I make will not sell, because Germany will make them more cheaply, and I shall be worse off.So if I want to keep my standards of living up, I have got to keep it down. If I work for less than my German counterpart, I shall be better off. Then he will want to work for even less, so that he can be better off than I am. Finally, we shall all work for nothing and live like Lords.”
