I knew that Ted Wilmott had joined the SPGB in the early 30s but I didn't know that he was given such a plum speaking gig so early on in his party membership. Speaking at a big indoor meeting in the early 30s would have been a big deal simply because the SPGB didn't have that much money to hire big halls, so when they did have those meetings they went all out.
