Party News from the March 1941 issue of the Socialist Standard
We repeatedly advise readers who want to know more about Socialism to read back numbers of the Socialist Standard. There is no better way of becoming acquainted with the Socialist attitude towards other political parties and to the innumerable attempts to solve social problems by means of reforms and palliatives. The pages of the Socialist Standard in the 36 years of its publication will reveal to the reader the strength and weakness of working-class organisation, the dangers of wrong methods and muddled ideas, and the difficulties of Socialist propaganda and organisation. So many seemingly original proposals have been made and exposed 10, 20 or 30 years ago. So many “new” evils have all happened before. So many binding pledges have been made and broken. It is all there in the back numbers of the Socialist Standard. No Socialist can afford to be without this knowledge.
The most permanent form in which to keep Socialist Standards is bound volumes. The prices are advertised each month on the inside front cover.
Many readers are, however, unable to afford bound volumes, and for them two alternative offers are made.
The first offer is 14 years’ unbound copies, at a total cost of 7s. (8s. if sent through the post). This offer covers the years up to 1935. For nearly every year since 1918 the whole 12 issues are available, but one or two months are now out of stock and cannot be supplied. In earlier years a number of issues are out of stock.
The second offer is that back numbers up to and including 1940 can be supplied at 1d. per issue (post free l½d.), or 1s. for 12 issues (1s. 6d. post free). This offer covers all years from 1904 to 1940.
All who are interested in these offers should send in their orders without delay. Owing to pressure on space it has become necessary to clear out surplus stocks of back numbers and after three months many of these surplus back numbers will have to be disposed of.
Send your order through nearest branch or direct to the Literature Secretary, 42, Great Dover Street, S.E.I.
Bad News for ” S.S.” Readers
