The South London Impossibilists (2026)

A wee 'As Others See Us' post.

If you click on the linked Brixton Buzz post mentioned elsewhere on the blog, where the SPGB local election candidate, Anya Krycek, lays into the hypocrisy of the local Lambeth Labour Party, and scroll down to the comments section, you'll find the following interesting post:

It’s heartening to see the SPGB out campaigning here again. This is where the party was born (the impossibilists of the old Battersea branch walked out of the SDF in 1904 ) and it’s good to have a tradition back on its home streets. They make no promises they don’t intend to keep: just the argument for abolishing the wages system, put honestly at hustings and on street corners. In an age of careerist triangulation, that plainness feels like a breath of fresh air. Good to have them keeping the argument alive where it started.
It's always nice when a friendly critic 'gets us'.

For a flavour of those early impossibilist comrades in Battersea (and elsewhere), click on the following links for a couple of activity reports from the Socialist Standard from its first year of publication: October 1904 and November 1904 .
