Nationalist Vision

 

Nationalists are generally myopic

From looking through unfocused spectacles,

Speech incoherent and vitriolic.

Denying reason and raising hackles.

The cause of common woes remain unseen,

Denying reason and raising hackles;

All foreigners are cast as being unclean.

 

The cause of common woes remain unseen,

Such is nationalism’s inanity,

All foreigners are cast as being unclean,

Though they’re of our common humanity.

 

Such is nationalism’s inanity,

Speech incoherent and vitriolic,

Though they’re of our common humanity,

According to the Poetry Foundation website it's "A Malaysian verse form adapted by French poets and occasionally imitated in English. It comprises a series of quatrains, with the second and fourth lines of each quatrain repeated as the first and third lines of the next. The second and fourth lines of the final stanza repeat the first and third lines of the first stanza."
