From the September 1982 issue of the Socialist Standard
In the article “Mitterrand clamps down" in our August issue appeared the following statement: "A sustained policy of increasing 'popular consumption' under capitalism must sooner or later restrict popular consumption to protect profits" (foot of column 3. page 148). This should have read: “A sustained policy of increasing 'popular consumption' under capitalism is just not possible. On the contrary, all governments of capitalism must sooner or later restrict . . ." We apologise for this omission.
