General Open Air Propaganda (1937)

Party News from the September 1937 issue of the Socialist Standard

Blogger's Note:

• There are no membership details for N. Nesbit and S. Otto. It could mean one of two things: 1) Another example of the gaps in the early membership records. 2) Both speakers adopted 'party names' for Party propaganda purposes because of work commitments, etc.
• A. S. Fisher joined the SPGB via Southwark Branch in November 1935. He lapsed his membership in July 1946.
• F. Walker joined the SPGB via Southwark Branch in April 1934. He resigned his membership in August 1948 because of the "apathy of the working class".
• H. Hayden joined the SPGB via Battersea Branch in April 1932. He resigned from the SPGB in December 1959 but rejoined it again in July 1975. He remained a Party member until his death at the age of 88 in 1992. His obituary appeared in the September 1992 issue of the Socialist Standard.
• G. Edkins was George Edkins, who joined the West Ham Branch of the SPGB in January 1928 and was a member of the SPGB for over fifty years. According to his obituary from the November 1978 issue of the Socialist Standard, he was known to be active at indoor and outdoor meetings during this period.
